In Loving Memory of
Sandra Lee Boettcher
(Maiden: Schenk)

of Grande Prairie, Alberta
July 4, 1959 - March 29, 2024

Our Most Precious Jewel

A jewel so rare
A twinkle in time
Who’s light was made stagnant
By the burdens of mind.
A bright wounded warrior
Her strength was in spades.
In courage she found…
All her plans to be laid...

Now her Spirit soars high.
She holds back not her pace,
Now free of the chains
Most others won't face.
I can see, can you see.
This most beautiful place?
I can see, can you see!
The sun on her face.

(Poem written by: Brenda Schenk. March 30, 2024)

Sandra Boettcher passed away on Friday, March 29, 2024 in Grande Prairie, AB.

Sandra was born on July 4, 1959 in Spirit River, AB., fourth child to Francis and Ella Schenk. Her first years were spent in Rycroft. The family moved to Valleyview, then to Wanham, where she spent her school years and graduated. After graduation, she moved to Grande Prairie to work. She got her Certified General Accountants certificate and worked in several offices. At one of these workplaces she met Jerry Hempler. They were married in June 1979. Her only child, beloved son Michael, was born there, she was always so proud of him and his accomplishments.

Sandra was happy to be Nana to four beautiful grandchildren: Annabelle, Brianna, and twins, Cassandra and Michael. She knitted afghans, several sweaters, toques, scarves, and mitten sets for each of them. Birthdays and Christmas were always remembered with cards and gifts. Sandra loved mailing parcels to them!

Sandra moved to Edmonton which gave her and her sister Linda time together again. While there she met Dwayne Boettcher. They were married and spent many happy years together. When Dwayne passed away, Sandra came back to Grande Prairie, where her family was happy to have her with them again. Besides visiting and playing lots of "Skipbo", she spent many hours knitting scarves, toques, and mittens for those who needed them. Sandra was very artistic with varying interests such as painting, crocheting, cross stitch, and of course knitting, being among her favorites.

Sandra is survived by her son Michael and his family; her parents: Ella and Harold; sisters: Brenda and Chris (Jim); brothers: Miles (Cheryl), Wade and Jay; as well as many aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Sandra was predeceased by her father Francis, sister Linda and a nephew. She will always be missed and remembered by all who loved her.

Sandra's family would like to extend thanks to Dr. M. Cele, to her nurse at Mental Health, and to her workers at Assertive Outreach Services. She has told her family how much she appreciated you all.

Memorial donations may be given to any mental health associations in your area and would be greatly appreciated by Sandra’s family.
