In Loving Memory of
Robert William Holmes

of Grande Prairie, Alberta
October 19, 1988 - March 7, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert William Holmes on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at the age of 35 years. Robert passed away peacefully in the arms of his wife at Prairie Lake Hospice in Grande Prairie, AB, after a year-long battle with metastatic colon cancer.

Robert was born October 19, 1988, in York, ON. He grew up in the Toronto area, and treasured time visiting family in Keswick, Newmarket, and Sundridge.

In 2011, Robert made the move west to Alberta for better work prospects. He met his wife, Alycia, while working in the oilfield, and they welcomed their daughter, Arizona, in 2015. In February 2016, his kidneys spontaneously failed due to a rare autoimmune disease, and he endured a year of hemodialysis before receiving a kidney from his wife. Robert and Alycia were married in Nanaimo, BC on the 2nd anniversary of the kidney transplant. They then happily welcomed their son, Houston, in 2021.

Robert had a larger-than-life personality. He was the life of the party, the clown who always had everyone laughing, and the one who was known for having the worst dance moves. He loved spending time outdoors and made many unforgettable memories camping, fishing, swimming, and canoeing. He cared very deeply for those close to him and would give the shirt off his back to help a friend in need. He left his mark on the world, and he sure left big imprints on the hearts of many.

He leaves behind his wife, Alycia Holmes, and their children, Arizona and Houston. He will also be greatly missed by his mother, Janice Wilson; sisters: Nichole Holmes, Jessica Holmes, and Christine Williams; maternal grandmother Ethel Wilson; aunts: Beverley, Susan, and Kendra; uncles: Steve and Ronnie; nieces and nephews: Ethan, Reed, Jase, Kailynn, Kaden, and Amaya; cousins: Michael, Amanda (Jordan), Kelsi (Scott), Ryan, Josh, Brianna, Madisyn, Olivia, Max, Baron, and Bohde; mother-in-law, Kerianne; father-in-law, Timothy; best friends: Connor, Leah, Randy, Kurtis, and Myranda; as well as many other family members and friends.

Robert was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Kenneth Wilson, uncle Kenneth Wilson Jr, stepfather Hugh Williams, and birth father Clifford Holmes.

A special thank you to Dr. Barreth and the Palliative Care team, the Prairie Lake hospice staff, and the staff on Unit 22 at GPRH, who cared for Robert and worked to keep him comfortable in his final days.

Robert's legacy is his children and he wanted very much for them to be taken care of in this time of loss and grief. Donations to this cause can be made to robertholmeslegacy@gmail.com.
